On the Oregon side of the magnificent Columbia River Gorge are many waterfalls of all sizes and shapes easily accessed from the old Columbia Gorge highway. Unfortunately, Fairy Falls is not one of these. In the course of the the one mile trail from the highway to the falls you must climb 800 feet in elevation. Every step up is worth the effort when you come around the corner and see Fairy Falls surrounded by mossy rocks and maidenhair ferns. One of the special things about this particular image is that the sun was just starting to hit the top of the falls and you can see the golden rays in the splashing water at the top right of the falls. What a relaxing and peaceful place after a strenuous climb.
Hello and thanks for stopping by. I've been a professional photographer for 30+ years. My degree is in microbiology and I did research work in that field for 3 years which sounds glamourous and exciting but in reality I found it to be repetitive and uninspiring. It does explain my interest in the tiny world and my desire to understand how things work. I've always said I could be a professional student as I love to learn new things and photography certainly does provide that opportunity. Even after all these years I continue to learn new things every day. I find photography to be the perfect blend of science and art. Most recently, some of my favorite work has been in the area of macro photography, especially the beautiful world...
